Okiku and the 9 Plates

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 24, 2008, 1:00 AM
There are lots of different versions of the story but the one I like best is:

Okiku works as a maid in the house of wealthy and respected samurai called Aoyama. He becomes infatuated with the beautiful Okiku and attempts to persuade her to be his mistress, though she refuses him. Angry but determined, Aoyama gives Okiku ten priceless plates asking her to watch over them. Some time later he sneaks one of the plates away and requests that Okiku bring the plates to him for inspection. She counts them hundreds of times hoping for a mistake, but over and over she finds that one of the plates has come up missing. Beside herself, she begs Aoyama to forgive her, as the punishment for the loss of a family heirloom is death. According to his plan, he offers to pardon Okiku, so long as she becomes his mistress. When she refuses him still, Aoyama flies into a rage stabbing Okiku to death and disposing of her body down a well. From then on, the forlorn spirit of Okiku was heard every night, counting to 9 and then sobbing uncontrollably. Aoyama heard Okiku's nightly cries but was never able to stop her shrieking. It was slowly driving him insane. When he could bear the memories of his great cruelty no longer, Aoyama threw himself down the well ending his life. Though he attempted to repent for his evils, Okiku can still be heard at the bottom of her well counting to nine and screaming for the loss of the tenth plate. Okiku's well still exists, [link] , though there's probably no ghost in it :(

So here's the deal.

After a long bout of consideration, I've decided to try taking some commissions. Despite my already meager amount of pride, I'm trying it out. My main fear is that no one will want my dumb drawings anyways, but honestly I've seen some pretty meh stuff for sale. So here goes:

Pencil sketch - $5 and up

Colored Pencil Sketch - $10 and up

Digital Line art - $20 and up

Digital Full Color - $30 and up

I will do:
- Original characters
- Fan art
- Artistic or cheesecake nudity is fine.
- Gay and lesbian is also fine as long as it's not crazy explicit.

I will not do:
- Hardcore Sex stuff, so don't ask.
- Lolicon or pedobear junk. NO.

I can send out hard copies of stuff, but honestly, my sketches are all beat to crap by the time I'm done. If you want a print I can do that too, but it will most likely add a bit to the price. Or I can just set up a print thingy here on DA. I really don't know the most economical way to handle that. So there you go! Take advantage of my lack of experience!

It's all sort of negotiable, and may be slightly more if there are more than one figure or complex backgrounds. Honestly, some money is better than no money, so I'm sure we can work something out.

“A true community consists of individuals - not mere species members, not couples - respecting each other's individuality and privacy, at the same time interacting with each other mentally and emotionally - free spirits in free relation to each other and co-operating with each other to achieve common ends. Traditionalists say the basic unit of "society" is the family; "hippies" say the tribe; no-one says the individual."

Movies I've been done saw.

There Will Be Blood
- One of the best films I've seen in a long long time. But I will probably never see it again. It left me with deep psychological scars that I'm still recovering from.

Carved: The Slit Mouthed Woman
- Disappointment galore! A kickass premise ( [link]) with a truly spooky antagonist made suck by all kinds of moral-high-horsing and weak characters that made me more apathetic than I care to be.

Arang
- Not many horror movies can sneak that surprise twist in on me, but this one did and I applaud it. It's actually more drama than horror and it works well.

Marie Antoinette
- Lots of Sophia Coppola lolling camera shots at weird angles, lens flares, and waving grasses. But I liked it. It starred Kirsten Dunst. And still I liked it.

Having a camera is not the same...

...as knowing how to use one. And to that effect I've been actively trying to be more careful and critical of the pictures I take. This latest batch of pictures are the result of my attempt to learn digital camera function. I would also like to thank BoingBoing for the greatest photography hint ever because I can take low-light photos now. Hooray! (*attn, all of you monetarily challenged folks out there): [link]
